This week we're joined by Joice Loo (Joyce Liu). She is an artist venturing into the unknown lands of web 3. During the day she works full-time as a senior designer at Oddfellows.tv. In her spare time she likes to read, eat, go on hikes and sleep.

1. What is Oddfellows.tv about?

Oddfellows is a Content Agency specializing in motion graphics, illustrative animation, and sometimes branding

2. Nice! Working full-time is obviously time-consuming. How did you end up in the NFT world?

It was after Beeple's first drop that got me like... "What the heck is an NFT?!" I found it interesting that people either hated it or loved it, got me curious and decided to try for myself. I started on Ethereum with Superare around August of 2021, but it wasn't until February of this year that I found a community that I really resonated with on Solana.

3. How did you come to be involved with Pop Headz?

Long story short, I've been a huge fan of Daniel's and have been following him on Instagram for years. At the time when I onboard Daniel to Solana, Duke, Laurence, Erick and I started The Kitchen, an artist collective, and Daniel became part of the Kitchen. Whenever a Kitchen artist has auctions, everyone would hang out in VC and watch, and that's where we saw how well received Daniel's original popheadz collection is.

Earlier that year I worked on another generative collection for Tablelands through Oddfellows, from there I was able to get some experience. We've all been somewhat curious about starting our own project at that point, and the team just naturally came together.

4. Now that Pop Headz has sold out, what are you looking for personally in the next few days after mint?

Personally am very excited about building out an artist collective similar to the Kitchen through sky academy, where artists can find a home and support. That aside I believe in Daniel's vision of Popheadz, and Eric's idea of clubs, very excited to see how the community and brand would evolve.

5. Some of the Pop Headz have a tiny critter friend hidden within them thanks to you. How did you originally come up with the critter, does he/she have a name, and how important was it for you to work that into Pop Headz?

The critters came about when I was learning 3D around the end of last year. It was a very brain power-intensive process, so to take a break I started drawing these childlike, noodlely characters for fun. Later I started sneaking them into my 1/1s for a little contrast and to break the third wall.

They represent spontaneity, playfulness, a little naughty, finding joy in small things, and a reminder that we're all going to die one day so might as well have fun while we're at it. Originally adding Critters and Popheadz was actually a good friend Kneeanderthul's Idea. He owns a couple of critters and one of the OG Popheadz Goblin. He randomly put them together and they look surprisingly good together! So for the collection, we added Critter friends as fun easter eggs. 6. What's next for you now that the mint is complete? Are you still actively working on Pop Headz or are you looking elsewhere?

I'm still working full-time as a senior designer at Oddfellows, and an active member with Popheadz, but my main focus would be shifting back to my own craft for a while. Getting back to watching tutorials, practicing painting, style exploration, and expanding the critter universe! Art aside though I will be spending some much-needed time with family and touching grass.

7. Where do you think the next step is for the 1/1 art community on Solana?

I'm probably not the most knowledgeable person on this.. but I think it's important to figure out an easy and safe way to onboard new artists. Thus the artist collective mentioned earlier. I think having a core group can really make or break someone's web 3 experience. These collectives already exist though! Mask warrior and URS to name a few.

8. Is there anything else you would like to share?

I'd like to give a shout-out to the team, Daniel, Eric, Jacheng, and Toney. A lot of life events happened for everyone... and after months, and hundreds of hours of work I'm very proud of what we have achieved. Shout out to Kemo for building the website, Formfunction for being our friend and launch partner, Ariel for being our kickass lawyer, all of the poopheadz who kept me company in art streams through the grind, our mods, QA team, and just everyone who has ever touched this project or offered words of encouragement. Last but not least to my husband who has been dealing with dishes for the past 6, 7 months ๐Ÿ˜… It has been an incredible journey and I can't wait to see where it takes us!
